DESCRIPTION:State of the Community - What happens when creativity meets artificial intelligence? What happens when creativity meets artificial intelligence? More about the Speaker:Dr. Davis Schneiderman is a nationally recognized higher-education leader whose career spans art and design practice\, institutional leadership\, and the integration of emerging technologies into creative education. Over more than two decades at Lake Forest College\, Schneiderman has helped guide a complex academic organization through periods of technological change\, capital growth\, and curricular reinvention\, consistently centering creative practice as a core institutional strength while contributing to sustained enrollment success and increased public recognition.Schneiderman previously served as Lake Forest's Provost and Dean of the Faculty. In that role\, he partnered closely with the Board of Trustees and senior leadership to guide academic strategy\, long-range planning\, and resource allocation across all educational and co-curricular areas. He oversaw more than 200 faculty and staff\, managed multimillion-dollar budgets\, and supported major new academic facilities that expanded interdisciplinary and creative teaching capacity. His leadership emphasized flexibility and sustainability building academic structures capable of evolving alongside changing disciplines\, technologies\, and student pathways.A central focus of Schneiderman's work has been the integration of technology into creative and academic life. His approach treats technology not as an end in itself\, but as a medium through which artistic inquiry\, design practice\, and institutional resilience connect. Schneiderman is widely recognized for leadership in artificial intelligence and creative education. He is Principal Investigator of HUMAN (Humanities Understanding of the Machine-Assisted Nexus)\, a $1.2 million Mellon Foundation initiative that places artists\, designers\, and humanists at the center of research\, curriculum development\, and public conversation around AI. The initiative supports faculty and student research\, experimental teaching\, creative residencies\, and exhibitions that examine how machine intelligence reshapes authorship\, design\, storytelling\, and cultural production. He also co-designed one of the nation's first humanities- and arts-based AI academic programs\, emphasizing ethics\, creative technology\, and the study of AI as a cultural phenomenon.Currently\, Schneiderman serves as the founding Executive Director of the Krebs Center for the Humanities\, which connects creative practice\, technology\, and public engagement. Anchored by a museum collection housed in an inspirational Italianate home\, the Krebs Center operates as a public-facing cultural institution integrating exhibitions\, symposia\, artist residencies\, and community programs with regional\, national\, and international artists and writers. Through the Krebs Center and his earlier grant leadership\, Schneiderman has built sustained partnerships with museums\, libraries\, schools\, and civic organizations.A published novelist\, writer\, and multimedia artist\, he has performed at galleries\, museums\, and cultural institutions in the United States and abroad. He is also a frequent speaker on creativity\, technology\, and higher education\, with appearances at national and international conferences and cultural venues.Schneiderman's family roots span several regions of the country. His family hails from New York City\; he was born in Delaware and grew up in Pennsylvania\, spending many formative visits with his grandparents during their years as Florida retirees. After completing graduate school\, he moved to the Chicago area\, where he has lived for the past 25 years. He and his wife\, Kelly Haramis an actor\, writer\, and former journalist with the Chicago Tribune have two college-aged daughters: Athena (19)\, who attends Colorado State University\, and Kallista (18)\, a student at the University of Southern California. Kelly spent her adolescence in Deltona\, Florida\, and the family looks forward to making Sarasota their next home.Lunch: A Buffet Lunch will be served. If you have any questions regarding this event\, please email Celeste Lloyd-Jones at cljones@sarasotachamber.com.
