Gecko’s Grill & Pub Collaborates with Meals on Wheels, Sarasota to Pack 469 Meals for Homebound Seniors

SARASOTA, Fla.— August 2026 —Gecko’s Grill & Pub partnered with Meals on Wheels, Sarasota on Wednesday, Aug 12, to support elderly and homebound members throughout the Sarasota community. Members of Gecko’s culinary team worked alongside Meals on Wheels volunteers at the organization’s Lime Avenue facility to pack 469 meals for local seniors who rely on the program.

The collaboration grew from a conversation between Fiona Farrell, chief operating officer of Gecko’s Hospitality Group, and Kate Ayres, development coordinator at Meals on Wheels of Sarasota, about ways the two organizations could deepen their partnership and expand their impact in the community. That shared commitment to service came to life as the Gecko’s team spent the day portioning and packaging 469 meals.

Joining Meals on Wheels Culinary Director Brant Good and his team were Gecko’s Executive Chef James Veldhouse, Kitchen Managers Forrest Driscoll and Mason Biener, and Director of Training Amy Leithauser. Together with Meals on Wheels staff and volunteers, the group helped pack meals that included slow-smoked BBQ pork, Gouda mac and cheese, collard greens, and a sweet roll.

“Meals on Wheels makes a tremendous difference in our community, and we’re truly grateful for the staff and volunteers who help make sure seniors are nourished and cared for,” said Fiona Farrell, chief operating officer of Gecko’s Grill & Pub. “It was an honor to collaborate with Meals on Wheels of Sarasota, and we look forward to future opportunities to serve side-by-side.”

Meals on Wheels, Sarasota is powered by approximately 570 volunteers, delivering meals to an average of 886 homebound seniors per year, and serving close to 120,000 meals per year. The organization provides more than nutritious food to homebound and elderly neighbors. Through its “More Than a Meal” approach, volunteers also provide meaningful social connection and wellness checks with each delivery, helping recipients remain connected to their community and live independently in their homes.

Meals on Wheels of Sarasota staff participating in the collaboration included Kate Ayres, development coordinator; Brant Good, culinary director; Eric Bodenrader, volunteer coordinator; and Rhonda Leiberick, executive director. The organization also extends its appreciation to the volunteers who participated that day and to all Meals on Wheels volunteers whose ongoing service makes the mission possible.

“We are so thankful for Gecko’s continued support and for the energy their team brought,” said Kate Ayres, development coordinator at Meals on Wheels of Sarasota. “Every meal packed is a step toward helping our homebound neighbors stay strong, healthy, and connected to the community.”
