Emery Ellinger
Founder & CEO, Aberdeen Advisors, Inc.
Emery is the CEO of Aberdeen Advisors, Inc., an M&A Advisory firm he founded after having built and sold his own multi-million dollar marketing company. Aberdeen Advisors specializes in representing companies with annual revenues in the $5 to $100 million range with owners that wish to sell within one to two years. Aberdeen is unique in that every member of the team has owned, operated, and sold a business, so each Advisor brings personal perspective as well as business acumen to each client relationship.
Emery has expertise in all areas of M&A Advisory practice and has successfully completed hundreds of transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and financings. From the typical transaction to the highly complex deal, Emery is repeatedly recognized as a leading mergers and acquisitions executive in the Tampa Bay market and is well known throughout the South for his ability to connect ideal buyers with sellers. His primary industries of focus are healthcare, manufacturing, distribution and business services.
Prior to founding Aberdeen Advisors, Inc., Emery earned his business and financial expertise as a banker, corporate advisor and president of several companies. He rapidly rose through the ranks at Bank South, and later Merrill Lynch, before becoming an entrepreneur. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Washington & Lee University.
Emery is a strong believer in giving back to the community. He is a member of Leadership Tampa Bay and serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the St. Anthony’s Hospital. He is on the BayCare Finance Committee. He enjoys golfing and traveling in his spare time.
Mark Gordon
Managing Editor of the Business Observer
Mark Gordon is the Managing Editor of the Business Observer. Mark has been with the Business Observer since 2005. He has written about companies, development, entrepreneurs and how government intersects with business, among other topics. He currently oversees the paper’s coverage from Tampa to Naples, in print and online, overseeing a staff of reporters and photographers, in addition to writing stories. He has written a biweekly leadership column, Leadership Matters, since 2021 in the Business Observer. And in 2023 he began hosting a weekly podcast, From the Corner Office.
The Business Observer is part of the Observer Media Group, which publishes six weekly newspapers across Florida and was founded in 1995. Started in 1997 as the Gulf Coast Business Review, the Business Observer is the leading provider and most authoritative source of business and economic information affecting the Gulf Coast from Polk to Collier counties. It is published in print each Friday, with a daily email newsletter.
Prior to the Business Observer, Mark worked for daily newspapers in upstate New York, suburban Philadelphia and Jacksonville. He lives in east Manatee County with his wife, Elyse, and their 16-year-old son, Aaron.
