Description
Join us for an unforgettable evening of Soul Blues with the acclaimed 2018 Soul Blues Artist Johnny Rawls on Friday, February 14th, from 5 to 8 PM at The Bazaar. Johnny Rawls’ journey into the world of blues began in the 1960s, inspired by his blind grandfather who introduced him to the guitar and blues. His illustrious career includes serving as the band director for the legendary O.V. Wright from the mid-1970s until 1980, and then leading Little Johnny Taylor’s band for five years. Throughout his career, Rawls has shared the stage with blues icons such as B.B. King, Little Milton Campbell, and Bobby Bland before embarking on a successful solo career in 1985. Rawls’ music embodies a timeless quality, often described as “a steamy brand of blues anchored by his masterful guitar playing.” While deeply rooted in soul and blues traditions, his innovative songwriting and arranging breathe fresh life into the genre, often with a playful twist. For an impressive 17 consecutive years, Rawls has received nominations from the Blues Music Awards. His latest album, “I’m Still Around,” was honored with the award for Best Soul Blues Album, solidifying his place as a leading figure in the blues community. Join Hamlet’s Eatery for dinner.
