Associate Artist and Literary Manager
Reporting to the Executive Producer, the Artistic Associate and Literary Manager is responsible for the oversight, management and general upkeep of Florida Studio Theatre’s Literary Department. This includes managing play solicitation, overseeing New Play Development, managing FST’s Forum series, and upkeep of literary databases. In addition, the Literary Manager will be the direct supervisor of 3 to 5 literary interns over the course of a year.
Job Responsibilities Include
As Associate Artist…
- Adding your creative perspective and voice to a small group of Artistic Associates who contribute to the artistic mission and work of Florida Studio Theatre
- Directing opportunities include musicals, plays, festival and workshop productions, Stage III productions, and others.
As Literary Manager…
Overseeing all operations of the Literary Office including
- Managing the daily operations and upkeep of Microsoft Access databases
- Play Solicitation
- Playwright Database
- Playwright Collective
- Literary Agents and Playwright Correspondence tracking
- New Play Development
- Cultivating all new plays for development and future consideration
- Serving as the Line Producer for New Play Festivals
- Cultivating existing relationships with playwrights and fostering new ones
- Hiring, training, and overseeing Literary Interns
- Line producing panel discussions, post-show discussions, and other community outreach events.
- Serving as a teaching artist for adult education classes in a variety of topics. Specifically serving as teaching artist for Reader’s Circle and substitute for Behind the Scenes, Playwriting, and Acting classes as needed.
Job Qualifications:
- Degree in theatre or related field and/or equivalent professional experience
- Minimum of 3 years of professional theatre experience, preferably in the regional setting
- Established creative practice in one or more of the following: directing, acting, design, music
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate in a friendly, concise, professional manner
- Aptitude for and interest in script analysis, theory/criticism, and dramaturgy
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple deadlines and priorities while keeping a cool head
- Familiarity with all Microsoft Office Suite apps: Access, Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Excel, Teams
Job Type: Full-Time (Exempt), Permanent
Reports to: Executive Producer
Compensation: $45,000 - $55,000
Anticipated Start Date / Hiring Timeline: Position open until filled. Applications evaluated on a rolling basis.
