Job Summary


An adjunct faculty member will be responsible for maintaining the highest academic standards in his/her particular discipline. The individual is expected to exercise professionalism in all activities related to the role of academician, including those concerned with the various duties assigned by the Department Chair, and any involvement with colleagues, peers, community and students. The position of an adjunct faculty member is temporary, and is contracted as needed.


Adjunct employees are compensated at a rate of $2000 per 3 ILH.


This is a hospital-based teaching assignment.

• Teaches all courses as assigned.

• Maintains attendance and punctuality.

• Maintains a professional appearance at all times.

• Prepares course syllabi (if not provided by the Department).

• Prepares instructional materials (if not provided by Department).

• Delivers course content in an effective manner to support student learning and meets the designated student learning outcomes.

• Participates in assessment.

• Meets all scheduled classes on the assigned day /time.

• Uses scheduled class time appropriately.

• Makes oneself available to students and college officials as needed.

• Demonstrates a professional attitude, philosophy, compassion and commitment that promotes student student growth and learning.

• Demonstrates commitment to the institutional mission, goals, and objectives.

• Adheres to College Rules and Procedures, which reflect updated Federal, state, and local legislation/regulations and College policy that governs the educational process.

• Maintains accurate student records for grading and attendance purposes, submitting attendance, grades, and other reports within college deadlines.

• During periods of planned absences, coordinates with the respective Department Chair or supervising academic administrator for qualified substitute instructors and provides instructional materials, protocols, and directions to ensure consistent and sequential classroom instruction.

• Promotes and maintains a healthy and safe educational and work environment, free from harassment and discrimination.

• Demonstrates professional growth and development by updating knowledge of subject matter and using effective teaching techniques.

• Develops, maintains and promotes a positive working environment among departmental faculty.

• Performs all other duties as assigned by the respective Department Chair orother supervising academic administrator.


Job Qualifications

• Education/Experience:


Master's Degree in Nursing required, Doctorate in Nursing (preferred) must be eligible for*, or have, a current valid Florida RN license, or Multi-State Compact License.

*Florida RN license must be obtained by hire date.


Recent nursing education teaching experience preferred.


• Other skills and abilities:


A record of excellence in professional or teaching career with demonstrated ability to work with colleagues, staff, and community constituents throughout the healthcare industry. Strong written and oral communication and computer skills required.


• Supervisory Experience:


No supervisory experience required.


• Language Ability:


Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in group settings, and to respond to general public, colleagues and students. Excellent English listening and speaking skills required. Ability to work effectively with student, faculty, staff, and administrators.


• Math Ability:


Must have understanding of basic statistics used in data collection.


• Reasoning Ability:


Ability to exercise a high degree of attention to detail and organization.


• Computer Skills:


To perform this job successfully, the candidate should have basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, Internet, e-mail, and presentation software. Completes the SCF Canvas Online Basic e-Certification course within 1 month of employment. Completes the SCF Canvas Online Advanced e-Certification within 1 year of employment.


• Certificates and Licenses:


Requirement: A current valid Florida RN license or be eligible for licensure in Florida, or has a Multi-State Compact License.


Current BLS-Healthcare Professionals CPR certification.

Responsibility for People and Property:

• Internal Contacts:


This position has routine contact with all levels of State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota staff.


• External Contacts:


This position has routine contact with prospective students, special interest groups, and community agencies. Frequent contact with parents, high school counselors and faculty, and vendors. Occasional contact with local businesses and industry.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to sit, use manual dexterity, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 25 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and taste or smell. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
