SARASOTA, Fla. – May 27, 2025 – On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Easterseals Southwest Florida proudly celebrated the momentous groundbreaking ceremony for the Malcolm Family Autism Center of Excellence “ACE”, a transformative addition to its expanding campus. This event marked a major milestone in the Campaign for Compassion, a visionary initiative aimed at expanding access to essential services.

The ceremony, held on the future site of the ACE, was attended by community leaders, campaign donors, and Easterseals board members. The celebration featured remarks from Easterseals President and CEO, Tom Waters, Gary Hoyt from Hoyt Architecture and John LaCivita from Willis A. Smith Construction—whose vision and talented teams will bring the concept to life.

"This is more than just a building," said Tom Waters, President and CEO, Easterseals Southwest Florida. "The Malcolm Family Autism Center of Excellence represents a transformative step forward, significantly expanding access to early intervention programs, diagnostic evaluations, therapy and individualized learning supports in an inclusive and welcoming environment."

Designed with input from clinicians and educators, the new state-of-the-art center will feature flexible educational and therapy spaces in a sensory-friendly environment, alongside family consultation, training and medical rooms.

In the coming weeks, site preparation and foundational work will begin, with construction expected to commence later this summer. The Malcolm Family Autism Center of Excellence is projected to open its doors in 2027.
