Take Stock in Children of Sarasota County Receives $25,000 Grant from the Leslie and Margaret Weller Fund at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County to Support Next Generation’s Pathway to Success Program

Sarasota County, FL — March 31, 2026 — Take Stock in Children of Sarasota County is honored to receive a $25,000 grant in support of its Next Generation’s Pathway to Success program, which provides college readiness coaching, mentoring, and scholarship opportunities for low-income, at-risk students.

Over the past year, 150 new students joined the Take Stock program and signed performance agreements committing to strong academics, good behavior, and regular mentoring. With the support of dedicated college readiness coaches, all students are progressing through their grade-level college readiness roadmaps and remain on track to graduate with a scholarship.

A Community Investment in the Future

Take Stock in Children of Sarasota County extends its deepest appreciation to the Leslie and Margaret Weller Fund at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County for its generous investment in the Next Generation’s Pathway to Success program. This grant directly supports the college readiness coaching that empowers low-income, at-risk students to envision—and achieve—a brighter future.

“Thanks to this support, our students are not only preparing for college; they are building the confidence, skills, and support networks that will carry them through their academic and professional journeys,” said Lisa Bechtold, Executive Director. “Together, we are creating a community where every student’s college dreams can become reality.”

Volunteer mentors were recruited, screened, trained, and matched with students, offering encouragement, goal-setting support, and guidance throughout the school year.

Take Stock’s model continues to deliver exceptional outcomes, with 99% of students graduating high school, 91% enrolling in college, and 73% completing a postsecondary degree, far surpassing rates for other at-risk students.
