SRQ Aircraft Observation Area Ribbon Cutting
The Sarasota Bradenton International Airport is excited to announce the grand opening of an Aircraft Observation Area.
For many years, residents have gathered in the gravel area off 15th Street East to watch planes take-off and land. Recognizing the importance of this space to the community, discussions began with Manatee County in 2016 to enhance the area. Through a collaborative effort, the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority and Manatee County joined forces to fund the project on a 50/50 cost basis.
The new observation area features a paved parking lot, a unique shade structure resembling an aircraft wing, convenient seating, an airport themed playground, enhanced lighting, beautiful landscaping, historical plaques showcasing the airport's development timeline, a historical rotating beacon from SRQ, and speakers broadcasting audio from the FAA air traffic control tower. The design incorporates the signature "SRQ green" color palette and logo, and an Allegiant branded aircraft at the playground.
The project, totaling $2,360,000, was brought to life by the team at Sweet Sparkman Architecture & Interiors and Stellar Development as the contractor. SRQ is thrilled to provide the community with a safe and engaging environment to enjoy and learn about aviation.
