The Henson Fund Empowers Families with Access to Summer Enrichment at Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties

Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties is thrilled to receive a grant of $20,250 from The Henson Fund to provide scholarships for underserved youth to attend the organization’s award-winning Summer Program. The grant will support up to 100 children, opening the door to a safe, fun, and enriching summer experience at the Roy McBean Boys & Girls Club at 1790 21st St. in Newtown and the Lee Wetherington Boys & Girls Club at 3100 Fruitville Road in Sarasota.

This vital support from The Henson Fund helps ensure that more children—specifically those living in Newtown or attending Tuttle Elementary, Emma E. Booker Elementary, Gocio Elementary, Booker Middle, or Booker High School—have access to high-quality summer programming. Throughout the summer, youth will engage with youth development professionals in a supportive and empowering environment. Certified teachers will also be available to help children stay on track for on-time grade advancement and start the school year ready to succeed in the classroom.

The grant will also support events and activities designed to deepen family engagement and provide caregivers with meaningful opportunities to be part of their child’s summer learning journey. These experiences help strengthen the important partnerships between the Boys & Girls Clubs and families, reinforcing a shared commitment to each child’s growth and success.

“We are deeply grateful to The Henson Fund for their continued commitment to the youth in our community,” said Bill Sadlo, President/CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties. “This grant ensures that the children who need us most can participate in a summer experience that builds their confidence, fosters new interests, and prepares them for lifelong success.”

“The Henson Fund is proud to support Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties in their mission to uplift and empower our community’s most vulnerable youth. Thanks to the vision and generosity of Mary Kay and Joe Henson, we are able to provide critical financial support that ensures children—especially those in underserved communities—have access to high-quality academic and enrichment opportunities during the summer,” said Dr. Bianca Harris, Director of Programs at The Henson Fund. “We strongly believe in the impactful programs offered at each of the Club’s sites, and we are honored to partner with an organization that consistently delivers safe, engaging, and inspiring experiences for young people. Together, we are investing in a brighter future—one child at a time.”

The program begins June 2 and runs through August 1. More information about the Summer Program and scholarship opportunities can be found at bgcsdc.org.
