BRADENTON, Fla. — Sept. 9, 2025 — Parenting Matters is honored to announce a $15,000 grant from the Wilson-Wood Foundation of Nokomis, Florida, supporting its Parent Partner Program. This evidence-based, in-home parenting education program equips families with the tools and strategies they need to strengthen relationships, reduce stress and foster healthy child development.
The Wilson-Wood Foundation, founded in 1981, has a long tradition of investing in organizations that achieve multi-generational impact, funding 30 different local community programs in 2024. By supporting the Parent Partner Program, the Foundation is advancing its mission of helping both parents and children thrive, creating positive change that ripples across families and communities. “Parenting is one of the most important and challenging roles anyone can take on, and families often need extra support along the way,” said Katie Becker, executive director of Parenting Matters. “Thanks to the generosity of the Wilson-Wood Foundation, more families in our community will have access to the Parent Partner Program and the tools they need to thrive together.” The impact of this program is best reflected in the story of Marielisa Leyva, a mother who once described herself as being in a “black hole” of depression, anxiety and fear. Through weekly sessions with a Parenting Matters educator, she received the tools, encouragement and support to rebuild her confidence, strengthen her relationship with her children and leave an unhealthy relationship. Today, Marielisa says she is “confident, brave and strong,” and has discovered that “me being well helps them [my children] be well.” Her transformation is one of many made possible by the Parent Partner Program. Thomas A. Faessler, president of the Wilson-Wood Foundation, emphasized the importance of this work: “The Parent Partner Program empowers parents to build healthier, stronger families. Supporting this program means investing in children’s futures and honoring the legacy of our foundation’s co-founder, whose vision continues to guide our work.” Susan Wood, secretary/treasurer of the Wilson-Wood Foundation, added, “We want to make as much of an impact in the community as possible. Parenting Matters’ work aligns perfectly with our vision of strengthening families for generations to come, and we are proud to help expand the Parent Partner Program’s reach.” Parents who complete the Parent Partner Program report increased enjoyment of their children, stronger family connectedness and reduced stress. Children benefit too, with improved behavior and stronger early literacy skills — key indicators of long-term school success. The Wilson-Wood Foundation’s investment underscores its commitment to multi-generational impact by strengthening both parents and children, building healthier families and contributing to stronger communities across the Suncoast.
